Hello from Jonathan Ball

The Princess and the Dragon

Hello, Reader!

We're making a movie!

Last year, GMB Chomichuk and I sold the film rights to our story "The Princess and the Dragon" to an intrepid crew of filmmakers and began a journey to make a movie!

This week, we go into production. Wish us luck! I will have more to report when I have more to report.

Suffice it to say, things have been hectic and busy lately, since this is not the only thing going on. Exciting times! 2024 promises to be busy and fun.

Why not check out the short story that started it all?

Anywhere you get your ebooks, you should be able to get "The Princess and the Dragon," a slasher-movie short story with an experimental edge.

Here's a snippet from the story:

The world let him believe that he was free. The world allowed him to reenter the elevator, to take it to the ground floor. The world let him walk back through the broken hallways, filled with the traces of her pursuit, let him step over smashed glass and splayed metal, let him return to the garage bay once more. Now though, with his experience as a guide, he could tell that other chases had occurred here. So when he returned to the garage bay he was half-expecting what he found.

The story changed a lot when we expanded and adapted it as a feature film story, and then changed even more when the producers and director began to rewrite and add to the script.

Our original story has a real Harlan Ellison flavour. I had just re-read "'Repent, Harlequin!' said the Tiktockman" prior to doing the first draft of the story, and Gregory and I kept trying to make it weirder and weirder as we revised the original story.

I think you'll appreciate the oddity, and when you finally get a chance to see the movie you'll be able to see where it roots in this story and where it has ended up its own thing.

Anyway, check out "The Princess and the Dragon" on your fave ereader and await news from the set! Wish us luck!

Stay strange,

Jonathan

Hello from Jonathan Ball We hit McNally's bestseller list! Hello, Reader! Stranger Fiction has TWO books on McNally's bestseller list this week! Of course, this is thanks to all of YOU! It's not uncommon to hit McNally's list if you have a well-attended launch. However, I still wasn't expecting us to hit it due to how we were launching two books. I thought people would buy one of the two and split the sales and dilute them in that way. But those of you who showed up really showed your...

First of all: Me, Myself, and Stranger Fiction will be at the Fireside Book Market TOMORROW (December 3). All the info is on this handy poster created by...
